History

When newly discharged United States Navy sailor Paul Reeves returned home to Habersham County back in 1946, he was not quite certain where life was leading him. As he stood by the rail line in Cornelia contemplating the future, he saw a small, unused storefront and an idea began to form: using the skills he had learned working in his brother’s hardware stores and the discipline and gung-ho spirit that he gained in the Navy to serve his community.

Not one to let the grass grow under his feet, Paul opened Habersham Hardware later that year.

Paul’s knowledge of lumber and hardware served him well, and Habersham Hardware grew into a thriving business. Using his profits to grow the shop and help the surrounding community, Paul and his faithful family of employees sold lumber, tools, paint and building materials. Paul proved himself to be a fair and ethical businessman, and he surrounded himself with a staff that also embodied those values.

Habersham Hardware Now

As the Cornelia store grew, so did Paul’s vision. A second location was added in Clarkesville, Georgia, and the business continued to thrive right along with the community.

In 2020, we decided to consolidate to a single location in Clarkesville to better serve our customers as the business has grown to accommodate a broader range of products and new technologies. A new generation of faces that grew up with us has now joined with us to serve you as dedicated Habersham Hardware staff members.

Although much has changed over the years, one thing always stays true: the pioneer spirit that has guided Habersham Hardware through the lean times and good. So whether you are a pro who makes a living in the trades or a DIYer working on a weekend project, we will always be ready to serve you.

Like you, Habersham Hardware has a passion for building.
